Project Overview
A Saudi-based heavy equipment integrator approached Glory Rail for a customized S49 Rail System, including S49 rails, bolted rail clips and four-hole fishplates manufactured according to the customer’s project requirements.
The customer has grown from an early-stage metalworking workshop into a heavy equipment integrator covering equipment design, manufacturing, automation integration and industrial spare parts supply. Its business includes concrete and dry-mortar equipment, industrial storage systems, material conveying and mixing equipment, heavy steel structures, electrical control systems and automation solutions.
For this project, the customer required not only S49 rails, but also customized fastening components based on its own drawings.
Project Scope
- Rail: S49
- Rail length: 12 m per rail
- Quantity: 11 rails
- Total rail length: Approximately 132 m
- Rail clips: 340 pcs
- Clip type: Single-hole, bolted rail clips
- Fishplates: 11 sets
- Fishplate type: Four-hole, supplied with bolts and nuts
- Destination: Dammam, Saudi Arabia
- Shipment: Tianjin, China to Dammam
- Shipment time: Late October 2025
The project required additional engineering attention because the customer’s original fishplate drawing revealed a small slope mismatch with the rail profile.
Customer Drawing Review: A Small Gap Was Identified
The customer provided its original fishplate drawing for manufacturing.

During our technical review, we checked not only the dimensions and hole configuration but also the actual interface between the fishplate and the S49 rail.
The review showed that if the fishplate were manufactured exactly according to the original drawing, there would be a slight gap between the fishplate and the rail at the sloped contact area.
The gap would not prevent normal use. However, from a fitting and engineering perspective, the slope of the fishplate should normally be consistent with the corresponding rail profile.
This was therefore treated as a drawing coordination issue rather than a product defect.
Instead of proceeding directly with production, our technical team informed the customer of the potential gap and proposed a drawing adjustment.

The original customer drawing resulted in a slight gap between the fishplate and S49 rail slope.
Engineering Adjustment: Matching the Fishplate to the Rail
For this S49 Rail System, the main engineering adjustment focused on the fishplate slope.
We modified the fishplate drawing so that its slope was consistent with the corresponding rail profile. The purpose was to improve the contact between the two components and eliminate the visible gap identified during the drawing review.
The change did not alter the basic fishplate configuration. The four-hole arrangement and overall application remained aligned with the customer’s requirements.
Original Drawing
The customer’s original design would have resulted in:
- A slight mismatch between the fishplate and rail slopes
- A small gap at the sloped contact area
- No expected impact on basic use
- A less consistent contact interface
Revised Drawing
The revised design provided:
- A fishplate slope matched to the rail
- More consistent contact between the two components
- No visible gap at the sloped interface
- A clearer manufacturing reference for production

The revised fishplate drawing uses a matching slope to provide a closer fit with the S49 rail.
Customer Confirmation Before Manufacturing
We shared the issue and the revised drawing with the customer before starting production.
This was an important step because the fishplate was a customized component based on the customer’s original drawing. Rather than making an engineering change without confirmation, we provided the revised design for the customer’s review.
After communication, the customer confirmed that the fishplates should be manufactured according to our revised drawing, with the slope adjusted to match the rail.
This ensured that both sides were working from the same final drawing before manufacturing began.
Rail End Hole Positioning and the 8 mm Rail Gap
Another technical point discussed during the project was the hole positioning at the rail ends.
Normally, rail joints require a defined gap between adjacent rail ends. During the technical communication, an 8 mm rail gap was used as the reference for determining the position of the rail-end holes.
Because the final rail installation would be carried out at the customer’s site, we also asked the customer to confirm the actual requirement for the rail-end holes.
After discussion, the customer decided that the rail-end holes would be drilled at its own site.
Therefore, the S49 rails were supplied without factory-drilled rail-end holes.
This decision avoided fixing the hole positions before the customer’s actual site conditions were available. The customer could instead determine the final positions and drill the holes during installation according to its actual rail joint layout.

Final Arrangement
- The 8 mm rail gap was discussed as the reference condition.
- Rail-end hole positioning was communicated with the customer.
- The customer confirmed that drilling would be completed at its own site.
- We therefore supplied the rails without drilling the rail-end holes.
This was a good example of why rail processing requirements should be confirmed before production rather than assumed from a standard configuration.
Customized Rail Clips and Fishplates
The order included customized fastening components to work with the supplied S49 rails.
Single-Hole Bolted Rail Clips
A total of 340 single-hole bolted rail clips were supplied.
The clips were manufactured according to the customer’s requirements and were intended to secure the rail while providing the required fastening arrangement for the project.

Four-Hole Fishplates
The project also included 11 sets of four-hole fishplates, complete with bolts and nuts.
Unlike a standard fishplate order, these fishplates required drawing review and engineering adjustment because the original slope did not fully match the rail profile.
The final fishplates were therefore produced according to the revised drawing confirmed by the customer.

From Customer Drawing to Final Production
The project followed a structured technical workflow:
Customer Drawing → Technical Review → Gap Identified → Revised Fishplate Drawing → Customer Confirmation → Production → Inspection → Packing → Third-Party Loading Supervision → Shipment
This workflow was important because the customer already had its own technical drawings.
Our role was not simply to reproduce the drawing. We reviewed the drawing against the actual rail profile, identified a potential fitting issue, proposed an adjustment, and obtained customer confirmation before production.
For customized rail components, this type of pre-production review can help prevent avoidable dimensional or fitting issues after delivery.
Third-Party Loading Supervision at Tianjin Port
After production was completed, the order was prepared for shipment from Tianjin Port to Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
The shipment was arranged for late October 2025.
Before departure, the customer appointed a third party to supervise the container loading at the port yard in Tianjin.
This gave the customer an additional opportunity to verify the cargo and loading process before the shipment left China.
For international rail orders containing both long steel rails and smaller fastening components, proper loading and cargo organization are important parts of the delivery process. The rails and accessories therefore had to be handled and secured appropriately for the sea shipment.

Third-party loading supervision arranged by the customer at Tianjin Port.
Project Result
The S49 Rail System order was completed according to the customer’s confirmed requirements and shipped from Tianjin to Dammam in late October 2025.
The final supply included:
- 11 × 12 m S49 rails
- 340 single-hole bolted rail clips
- 11 sets of four-hole fishplates
- Fishplates manufactured according to the revised slope design
- Rails supplied without factory-drilled rail-end holes, as confirmed with the customer
The most important part of the project was completed before production: the potential gap between the fishplate and rail was identified through drawing review and corrected after technical discussion with the customer.
The customer accepted the revised fishplate drawing and instructed us to proceed with production according to the modified design.
What This Project Demonstrates
This Saudi project demonstrates several capabilities that are important for customized rail procurement.
1. Engineering Review of Customer Drawings
A customer-supplied drawing is not always treated as a production instruction without further review. The actual relationship between mating components should also be considered.
2. Customized Component Manufacturing
The project required customized rail clips and fishplates rather than only standard rail products.
3. Pre-Production Problem Identification
The slight slope mismatch was identified before manufacturing, when it could still be corrected easily.
4. Customer-Confirmed Engineering Changes
The fishplate drawing was revised and submitted to the customer before production. The final design was manufactured only after customer confirmation.
5. Flexible Rail Processing
Because the customer planned to drill the rail-end holes on site, we did not perform unnecessary factory drilling.
6. Controlled Export Logistics
The customer arranged third-party supervision of container loading at Tianjin Port, adding an additional layer of shipment control.
Conclusion
This S49 Rail System project was not simply a standard rail supply order. It involved customized components, customer drawings, engineering review, dimensional coordination and international shipment management.
The fishplate slope issue is a good example of how a small detail on a drawing can affect the fit between two components. By identifying the potential gap before production, proposing a revised design and obtaining customer confirmation, the project team was able to resolve the issue before the components reached the installation stage.
For customers purchasing S49 rails together with customized rail clips, fishplates or other fastening components, early drawing review can help ensure that the final components are compatible with the intended installation.
If you have S49 rail drawings, fishplate drawings or customized fastening requirements, Glory Rail can review the technical details before production and provide a coordinated rail solution based on your project requirements.
