Which A120 material grade should I choose: S700, 900A, or S1100?

Use S700 (≥690 N/mm²) for general and medium-duty crane runways; 900A/U71Mn (≥880 N/mm²) as the standard heavy-duty choice for port and industrial cranes; and S1100 (≥1080 N/mm²) only for extreme wheel loads or high-wear environments. 900A is the most common selection for A120 because it balances strength, hardness (~260–300 HBW), and cost. A100 has a 100mm head and weighs ~74.3 kg/m; A120 has a 120mm head and weighs 100 kg/m. A120 is specified for larger wheel loads, wider wheels, and heavier port or shipyard cranes, while A100 can suit medium-duty overhead or gantry cranes. If your STS crane lifts 65 t or more, A120 is the safer specification.

DIN 536 A120 has a 220mm base and 105mm height — a squat, laterally stable profile. GB QU120 is taller at 170mm with a 170mm base, optimized for vertical bending; the two are not interchangeable in fasteners, pads, or sole plates. AREMA/ASCE are railway standards, not direct crane-rail equivalents. For international port projects, DIN 536 A120 is usually preferred for its lateral stability and wide base.

What quality certificates and testing come with exported A120 rails?

Each rail carries a Mill Test Certificate to EN 10204 Type 3.1/3.2 with heat-number traceability. Inspection includes ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and visual check.
