GOST P50 R50 Rail Applications
GOST P50 rails (approximately 50–51.8 kg per meter) are classified as medium-heavy rails under the Russian standards system. They are primarily used on lines with medium-to-low loads and medium-to-low speeds, rather than as main rails for high-speed rail or heavy-haul trunk lines. Their typical applications are as follows:
Auxiliary and Branch Lines of the National Railway
Within the 1,520 mm broad-gauge railway network in Russia and CIS countries (Russian-speaking regions), P50 rails are commonly used for station approach and departure tracks, marshalling yards, shunting tracks, as well as sidings and branch lines on main lines. They are suitable for freight train marshalling and parking, or low-speed shunting operations, and can withstand certain axle loads under conditions where operating speeds are not high.
Industrial Enterprises and Mine Sidings
This is a core application area for P50, widely used on private rail lines within steel mills, power plants, ports, chemical industrial parks, and mining areas. Examples include raw material transport lines at metallurgical enterprises, coal-hauling branch lines at power plants, and mine car tracks in underground mines. These scenarios typically involve short distances, heavy loads, and low-speed operation in harsh environments, making P50’s strength and cost-effectiveness well-suited for such conditions.
Urban Rail Transit and Specific Infrastructure
It is commonly used on secondary lines such as auxiliary lines for subways and light rail, depot storage tracks, and maintenance yard tracks. Additionally, it is suitable for ground tracks in logistics and warehousing yards, as well as serving as the foundation for the running tracks of large lifting equipment such as gantry cranes, bridge cranes, and heavy-duty tower cranes.
Railways in Cold Regions and Special Environments
Due to the strict GOST standards regarding the toughness of steel in low-temperature environments, P50 rails perform reliably on regional railways and industrial sidings in extremely cold regions such as Siberia and Northern Eurasia, withstanding the challenges of snow and ice coverage as well as low-temperature embrittlement.
