Tie Plates for Light Rail
Light rail tie plates (also called base plates or sole plates) are key components of rail fastening systems. Installed between light rail tracks and sleepers (wooden or concrete), they are typically made of high-strength steel or ductile iron, secured by spikes or bolts to lock rails in place . These plates are tailored to light rail’s operational characteristics, balancing flexibility and stability for urban transit scenarios .
Light Rail Tie Plates Specifications
Light rail tie plates are manufactured in accordance with GB/T 11266-1989, the Chinese national standard for rail fastening components.

Manufacturing & Delivery Condition
Light rail tie plates are produced using oxygen converter or open-hearth steelmaking processes, ensuring stable composition and high purity of the steel material.
The products are delivered in hot-rolled condition, providing excellent dimensional accuracy and consistent mechanical performance.
Each tie plate must pass a 45° (inner angle 135°) cold bending test. After the test, the sample should remain free from cracks or fractures, confirming the steel’s toughness and forming ability.
Surface & Processing Quality
Surface Requirements
The surface must be free from scabs, inclusions, folds, or cracks deeper than 1 mm.
The contact surface with the rail should be smooth and free of protrusions or raised defects.
Burrs and small bumps must be completely removed to ensure proper fit and stability.
Processing Quality
Minor deformation caused by shearing is acceptable within tolerance limits.
The end face of the tie plate must be perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, with no signs of delamination or shrinkage cavities.
